SUMMER PROGRAM 2012
About Tonight
From “Dreamgirls” to “Dreamcoat.”
While last week we saw a story about the price of our dreams,
Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor
®
Dreamcoat
inspires us see the cost of not pursuing them.
In
Joseph…
to dream is to live, so “any dream will do.”
AndrewLloydWebber and TimRice’s
Joseph...
began life as a 15minute children’s
cantata in 1968 before their other Bible inspired musical,
Jesus Christ Superstar
.
From those humble origins it has been expanded with new songs and stagings
into a phenomenon. It has been produced several times on Broadway and the
West End, and is especially popular in schools. No matter how or where it’s
produced,
J seph…
always creates childlike joy.

Lara has thrilled Muny audiences for years with his delectable performances,
including last season’s
Bye Bye Birdie
and
The Little Mermaid
. He also heads
the Musical Theatre Program at Webster University with whom The Muny has
formed an exciting new partnership. It’s wonderful to have him take on new
creative challenges at The Muny. He is being given great support with
Joseph...
by Associate Choreographer Yvonne Meyer, and Dance Captain Michael Baxter.
Justin Guarani, so slick and menacing in
Chicago
three weeks ago, transforms
himself to become our warm and charming Joseph. I’m thrilled you’ll have
a chance to see the ever-expanding range of this extraordinarily talented
performer. I’ve worked with Mamie Parris (the Narrator) on two shows, and

that is so good that in 10 years you’ll look at a photo and say: “Can you believe
we saw all of those people in one show?” He succeeded in that mission in ways
in which we could never have imagined.
Also sharing the stage tonight are 36 Muny Kids and 29 Muny Teens. For all of us
on and off stage at The Muny, they are a constant reminder that we always need
to dream.
